The Studio has a rich history in central Iowa. It was built in 1954 by Ellen Belle Foster, a talented tap dance and ballet teacher who taught from 1930 through 1965. Well known in Indianola and central Iowa, she touched thousands of lives introducing them to dance and the stage. The Studio served as a location for the renowned Foster Powell Dance Studio with instructor Richard Powell continuing her legacy from 1965– 2017.
