Worship

Worship is central to the Christian life. It begins on Sunday mornings with what Lutherans refer to as the “Divine Service.” We call it this because God serves us, and we respond by serving Him and others in His name.

Jesus said: “I am among you as one who serves” (Luke 22:27).  Before God, we are primarily receivers: sinful beggars who deserve nothing. But we are also children of the heavenly Father who for Christ’s sake receive everything, both material and spiritual blessings, even the hope of eternal life.  On Sunday mornings we receive God’s forgiveness and gracious presence as Christ comes to us in the preached Word, in the water of Baptism, and in the bread and wine of the Lord’s Supper. Even the faith that receives God’s mercy is itself a gift, given and sustained by the Holy Spirit through His Word and sacraments.
